Speaking of sketching…

I’m currently reading Sketching User Experiences by Bill Buxton. Today I came across a really great point that Buxton makes on p.329: “The risk of someone stealing your ideas, or of making a fool of yourself, by sharing your ideas before they are done is nothing compared to the certainty of ending up with impoverished results if you don’t.” This idea has been on my mind a lot lately. As scary as it can be to present an idea before you feel it’s ready, it really is amazing how valuable the feedback you can receive is in helping you further progress the concept. The important thing is to stress that the idea, sketch, or prototype you are presenting is just that and not in a fully realized or finalized state. Buxton’s book goes into great detail about such things and it has been an inspiring read so far. I highly recommend it to anyone working in the design field.

My sketchbook is better than yours

I stopped by the Renegade craft fair at McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn yesterday and picked up this cool sketchbook. Jacob Deatherage recycles old hardcover books into journals/sketchbooks. Just had to have this vintage computer sketchbook. He even interleaves some of the original pages thoughout the blank pages.

Well it’s about time…

Finally found some time (and motivation) to put this blog together. Hopefully I can keep up with it.
